World Championships

2009 FIPSed WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – NETHERLANDS

The CIPS / FIPSed world championships are the top events in the world for various forms of coarse angling. These include:

  • Float Fishing
  • Feeder Fishing
  • Carp Fishing
  • Bass Fishing

Within the float fishing championships there are various different competitions for various different ages groups which juniors, seniors , masters and veterans. THere is also a very popular woman’s world championship. These events are hugely popular and feature the worlds best anglers and regularly attract thousands of spectators.

Australia has entered teams into the all the about disciplines. The first time a team represented Australia was in Float Fishing in 1989 fishing on the Plovdiv Canal in Bulgaria. For the results and some great old videos of this event please click on the picture below:

To date our best result has be an individual gold medal in the Float Fishing World Championships held Ireland in 1992. David Wesson from Melbourne Coarse Angler was the first angler from the southern hemisphere to win the event and he was also one of the youngest anglers ever to win.

The most recent attendance to the world championships took place in 2019 in South Africa. South Africa hosted to the World Fishing Games which consisted of several of the major world championship events being held concurrently at various venues around the country.

AFCAA teams represented Australia in Bass Fishing , Carp Fishing and the 9th Feeder Fishing World Championship. Also at the world games was an exhibition competition was held for a new fishing method referred to as Bank Angling. This form of angling is very popular in South Africa and several team took part, this included a bank angling team from Australia.

Due to the COVID pandemic all world championships for 2020 had to be postponed. There was an AFCAA team planned to attend the 10th Feeder World Championship in France in 2020. CIPS / FIPSed have at this time rescheduled this event until July 2021. It is hoped that the COVID situation is bought under control and that the team will be able to attend the rescheduled event.
