Trans-Tasman 2025

The AFCAA committee announces that the next Trans-Tasman will be held in Christchurch in February 2025. Full details are below :

Christchurch, New Zealand

on

17th, 18th and 19th February 2025

This event will be the 32nd running of the Trans-Tasman and it will be a great opportunity to renew acquaintances with our fellow Kiwi Anglers and enjoy some great fishing.

Discussions around the organisation of this event have commenced with the team in Christchurch. It is proposed that we combine fishing the Tran-Tasman 2025 with the annually run Canterbury Open.

The Trans-Tasman 2025 will be a festival type competition, fished over three days, with each angler fishing a different venue each day.  It’s proposed that we will fish the Trans-Tasman on the weekdays of Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Then those that want can fish the Canterbury Open on the Friday Saturday and Sunday (21st, 22nd and 23rd February).

The Venues that we expect to use will be:

  • North End Quarry (Rudd and Perch)
  • Lake Hutchinson (Rudd Tench and Perch)
  • The Ski Lake (Tench , Perch)

What I can tell you about the venues to be used is that they offer some the best Tench and Rudd fishing available in New Zealand. We anticipate using the very popular “North End” Quarry Lake.  This lake offers terrific Rudd fishing. Generally, it’s fished using a Whip, however Long Pole Short line tactics also work very well.

Full details for each venue to be used during the week will be distribute to anglers that travel to New Zealand to participate.

As you can see from the photo’s above there is some terrific fishing to be had in Christchurch.

There are already a significant number of Australian anglers who have been to Christchurch and enjoyed the fishing and the social activities. The last trip in 2020 was a great success and everyone had a terrific time.  The Trans-Tasman 2025 and the Canterbury Open 2025 promises to provide a fantastic week of fishing and the associated social activities.

As I advised early we will provide regular updates on progress over the coming months.
