The first Trans-Tasman Coarse Angling competition was held between Australia and New Zealand in 1986. The competition was split between two venues : the Yarra River and the Bostock Reservoir at Ballan. The event was a great success despite of the all the logistical issues around travelling with your fishing tackle.
Australian won this first event but the major thing that came from this event was the camaraderie that developed and continues to develop between the participating Anglers. A number of the original Anglers that participated in this event have since died but there are a number of Anglers that whenever possible have continued to participate in the event. The hosting country for this event has alternated every year since 1986. The event in New Zealand has been held in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand at different locations.
With some recent changes made to the format of the event, the Trans-Tasman is now open to all Federation Members. We would really recommend that as a Federation Member you consider travelling to New Zealand to participate. The fishing is terrific and the hospitality is even better.
It has been really encouraging that for the last couple of years the number of participating anglers has been increasing and we look forward to continuing this event for many years to come.
