Feeder Masters 2021

The weekend of 29th and 30th May we were scheduled to run the 3rd AFCAA Feeder Masters s on Lake Hume at Albury. We have 29 entrants confirmed and everyone was looking forward to a great weekend.

Unfortunately, on the Thursday the Victorian Government announced another statewide seven-day lockdown that would commence at Midnight.   Several Victorian anglers had already arrived in Albury, and more were on the road travelling as the announcement was made.  The South Australian lads had left early Thursday morning and the remainder of Anglers travelling up on Friday.

After due consideration and with SA announcing they would close the border to Victoria the unfortunate decision was made to postpone the event and reschedule at a time later in the year. Everybody on the road was informed and unfortunately all turned around and headed home.

The current restrictions in NSW did mean however that the NSW Lads could run an NSW only Feeder Festival over the next few days and this is exactly what they did.

The Victorians, who were already in Albury, packed up and headed home all very disappointed.  But keen to see how the fishing would go.   The weather for the next few days looked perfect, Cold mornings with bright sunny days and light winds.  Nine anglers

They decided to have a knock up match on the Friday and then hold a two-day feeder event as was scheduled.

8 Anglers fished on Friday with plenty of fish to be found. A couple of people did struggle by local Albury angler Gareth Smith managed 53.450 Kilos.  Mark Bryant who had driven down from Port Macquarie was 2nd with 38.350.  Dennis Saunders (“Fishing with Den” YouTube videos) was third with 37.725.

Friday Results

Day 1 – Saturday

Saturday morning started chilly, -2 degree and some fog around.

Chilly start to the day

The forecast was for sun and light winds.  9 anglers fished, the venue was pegged with 10 pegs. It was decided to leave peg 5 spare.  The fishing was patchy.  Pegs 1 and 2 fished poorly. As can be seen from the results, the middle pegs fished well with a couple of 40 Kilo weights. The fish appeared to be in deeper water and the view was that they were impacted by the cold weather.

The winners for Day 1:

1st           Dennis Saunders                              46.325

2nd          Danny Brown                                   44.325

3rd          Gareth Smith                                    42.100

Day 2 – Sunday

Sunday was essentially a repeat of day 1. The draw was kind to Danny Brown and Dennis Saunders they simply swapped pegs.  Both had produced on Day 1 and didn’t disappoint day 2.  Ivan Mitchell on Peg 6 started really well but his fish slowed up. Danny on peg 4 caught consistently and finished well.  Danny managed to finish several fish ahead of Dennis to secure the win for Day 2 and also had enough to catch him up and win the weekend.  Gareth Smith put in another consistent result of 37.750 Kilo to secure a third overall for the weekend.

The winners to Day 2 :

1st           Danny Brown                                   44.650

2nd          Ivan Mitchell                                     42.050

3rd          Dennis Saunders                             37.750

Detailed Results
Winner – Danny Brown with 88.950 Kilos

It was unfortunate that the Feeder Masters had to be postponed but despite the setback, everybody from NSW who participated had an enjoyable weekend.  Once the lockdown is over and things start to return to normal (whatever that might look like) we will reschedule this popular the event for later in the year.
