Every year the Federation run the Australian National Championships. This is a team’s of four event which include an individual competition within the teams event.
The “National” was first fished in 1986 and has been fished around various venues in Australia since that time. The venues that have been used include; Lake Hume, Lake Berley Griffen , Murray River and Carrum.
2019 National Championships
The 2019 National was fished on the Murray River in Mildura on the last weekend of March. The national is fished over two days with the results combined over the two days to determine the winners.
The 2019 National event was fished immediately after the 2019 Trans Tasman competition and attracted 49 competitors.

The results for the weekend event were terrific with over a total 2,700 Kilos of fish caught. It should be noted that there was a significant increase in the number of Australian Native fish caught this year, including Boney Bream and Silver Perch and really healthy sign for the Murray River. In our competitions we do not count Native Fish and they are returned to the water immediately.
Given that so many fish were caught the weigh-in is a major task and its all hands on deck to help.

Our congratulations go out to all the winners for what was a great event.
Given the current situation with the COVID-19 Pandemic it is unlikely that we will have a National Championship in 2020. However we are currently preparing the Match Calendar for 2021 which should be available shortly.
