The Australian Federation of Coarse Anglers Association (AFCAA) is the Australian body that represents Coarse Anglers and Coarse Angling within Australia.
The term coarse angling has its origin back in the United Kingdom and Europe and simply refers to angling for freshwater fish which are traditionally not considered as being desirable for food.
For a more detailed description of coarse angling in Australia please refer :
The AFCAA was initially formed in 1986 with two clear objectives in mind. These were to:
- Promote and support Coarse Angling across Australia.
- Become the recognized registered body to the international angling body; CIPS (Confederation Internationale de la Peche Sportive) specifically for Freshwater Competition Fishing (FIPSed).
CIPS / FIPed are the major international Angling bodies for competition fishing. Each year they run a series of Coarse Angling World Championships at various locations that are predominately within the European area. To visit the FIPed website please refer :
Teams from the AFCAA over the years have regularly participated at these events. Our great success to date was the winning of the Individual Seniors World Championship for Float Fishing by David Wesson in 1992. These events are hugely competitive and attract thousands of spectators for each event. The anglers that have participated at these events all agree that it the experience of a lifetime.
The AFCAA consists of a management committee of five persons:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Match Secretary
- Treasurer
As well as the management committee there are additional committee members who are persons nominated by each Angling State within Australia. The states represented within Australia are:
- New South Wales
- South Australia
- Victoria
- Western Australia
For full details on the current committee members please refer:
Each year the AFCAA run an event filled calendar which include a number of terrific events. These events include National and State champions. For more information on these events refer ABOUT EVENTS.
The membership of AFCAA are drawn from the various Coarse Angling Clubs and Angling Groups around Australia and all have a common passion for freshwater angling and match fishing.
The membership of the AFCAA has a good number of expatriates from the United Kingdom and Europe where they coarse fished before relocating to the other side of world. Please if you are planning to immigrate or plan to spend some significant time in Australia, I would strongly encourage you to use the ABOUT CONTACT and touch base with us. We will try and assist as much as possible. Many Anglers that do head “down under” make the mistake of not bringing their fishing tackle with them, only to regret that decision later. Just be aware that Coarse Angling and Match Fishing is very much alive and well in Australia.
If you are an Australian freshwater angler and are interested in finding out more about Coarse Angling and Coarse Angling Techniques why not come along and join us for a day out. Please feel free to use the ABOUT CONTACT and we will get back to you and let you know where we will next be fishing.
